Association for Development of Children and Youth – Open Club from Nis is implementing a project entitled „Child rights in stories and practice“ in cooperation with Centre for Creative Development – Knjazevac from Knjazevac, Centre for Civil activism – Denizen from Svrljig, CSO Children’s Joy from Zajecar, Nexus Vranje from Vranje, KIC Pralipe from Pirot, Association of Roma Prokuplje from Prokuplje and Civic initiatives from Belgrade, office in Bujanovac. The main objective is the improvement of protection, promotion and implementation of child rights in accordance with the UN Convention on the rights of the child, through the empowerment of civil society in southeast Serbia and building its capacity to create mechanisms for the protection of the rights of the child.
Through TOT training on child rights and OP3, the project will bring together 16 young people from 8 cities that will transfer the acquired knowledge to children and young people over 12 workshops on child rights and action planning, while a total of 160 young people, 18 to 25 years, will complete very innovative storytelling workshop and participate in a storytelling contest in order to increase the visibility of non-observance of the rights of the child. In addition, in schools will be announced competition for the campaign logo. Local campaigns will last for 5 months in parallel in all 8 towns, and will be based on the results in the competition as well as on the results of held public discussions. At the final press conference it is expected to reach a consensus on the necessity for greater respect for the rights of the child as well as making recommendations for ratification of OP3, which will be presented at the advocacy meeting of with relevant institutions and bodies.
The project “Child rights in stories and practice” will contribute to increasing the capacity of civil society in Serbia for the protection, promotion and implementation of child rights, and the strengthening of democratic reform and dialogue. In addition, it will increase the visibility of non-observance of child rights through the creation of mechanisms for protection and as the most important result, it will affect the advocacy process and the final ratification of the Third Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The project will be implemented until October 2017 with the support of the Delegation of European Union to Serbia through the EIDHR program.
