The competition for the short story about child rights is extended until 20 February 2017.

Association for Development of Children and Youth – Open Club from Nis, in partnership with the Center for Creative Development from Knjaževac and in collaboration with six organizations from Eastern Serbia (UG Children’s Joy from Zajecar, Center for civic activism – Denizen from Svrljig, KIC Pralipe from Pirot, the Association of Roma from Prokuplje, Nexus Vranje from Vranje and Civic initiatives from Belgrade, office in Bujanovac) announces the competition for a short story on the theme of children’s rights.

The heroes of the short stories should be children and young people (under 18 years of age) who had their children’s rights violated or they are excluded from community life in different ways. These children might be disadvantaged compared to their peers, they might be on the margins of society, exposed to poverty, discrimination, violence, or they may lack access to quality education, be deprived of social and health care, etc. Even though they are here, around us, with us, most of these young heros are invisible and voiceless. And they could tell their story and to tell us a lot about themsleves, but also about ourselves, our world and opportunities. Respond to the call, share with us a part of those untold stories.

Conditions of the call:

The story has to be true. In order to protect the right to privacy, the names of the heroes of the stories can be changed. In the event that the story goes into the final selection, it is necessary that the writer documents the truth of the story.

The story should have up to 1000 words, font Times New Roman, font size 12.

The competition is open to all participants from the territory of the following towns/ municipalities: Niš, Knjaževac, Svrljig, Zaječar, Pirot, Prokuplje, Vranje and Bujanovac.

The story should be sent electronically to the e-mail address storytellingserbia@gmail.com. It is required to submit the name and surname of the author of the story, contact phone number and indicate which town/municipality the autor is applying for, given that each of them has its own special jury that will decide about the awards.

In each town/municipality the jury will reward 3 most successful stories by awarding the authors prizes in the amount of 100 EUR for the first place, 60 EUR for second place and 40 EUR for third place.

The competition is open from 25 November 2016 to 31 January 2017.

By submitting the work to the competition, participants give their consent to their work being elected in the competition and that it can be used for promotional purposeless by the organizers of the competition. Arrived stories will not be returned.

The competition is open within the project Child rights in stories and practice which is implemented by the Association for Development of Children and Youth – Open Club in partnership and cooperation with the above mentioned CSOs and with the support of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia through the EIDHR program.
